You want to get rid of your allergy
Allergic symptoms such as redness, itching and irritation occur when the body is overstimulated by external substances and has insufficient energy to repair itself. Often, several elements play a role. Many allergic symptoms originate in the intestines, the Earth element. The metal element, respiratory tract and skin, also needs support. And the Wood element is often the cause of the well-known allergic manifestations. With acupuncture and herbs, we help the body restore energy, calm stimuli and support the body's self-healing capacity. This gives space to reduce allergic symptoms in a natural way.

Treating allergies with acupuncture
An allergy is a form of immune system hypersensitivity. In doing so, the body reacts to substances from the environment that are normally not a problem. Common symptoms include:
- Red eyes
- Red and/or itchy skin
- Swelling
- shortness of breath
- Shortness of breath
- Runny nose.
Allergies are common and can be very annoying and sometimes even life-threatening. Examples of allergies that we treat in practice include hay fever, dermatitis, asthma and food allergies.
Allergy and Chinese Medicine
In Western medicine, an allergy is an unspecific or too strong reaction to a certain stimulus. In Chinese Medicine, there are different approaches to looking at an allergy.
The most common cause has to do with body fatigue (many people call this a poor immune system), combined with the accumulation of waste products that aggravate the symptoms. It is not surprising that physical fatigue leads to poor immunity; there are simply fewer sources available to ward off intruders.
Hay fever as an example
In Chinese Medicine, hay fever is seen as a “summer cold”. Due to a reduced (or low) resistance, the intruders (pollen) cannot be removed properly. They stay in places or even where they do not belong for too long. This causes a reaction from the body, such as a runny nose and sneezing, similar to a cold.
Hayfever also causes the eyes to flare up; they can become very itchy and red. This is also known as conjunctivitis in Western medicine. Because the symptoms are seasonal, people also speak of allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the nose).

The treatment with acupuncture and herbs is aimed at reducing your symptoms as quickly as possible and addressing the cause. Treating symptoms is important, but strengthening the body and addressing the cause is necessary for long-term results. Often, both are treated at the same time. Only in the case of acute, severe complaints, work is first done to alleviate the symptoms, after which the cause is also addressed.
The difference with regular treatments lies mainly in the difference in the approach. With acupuncture and herbs, the body strengthens, allowing the body to regulate itself better and to reduce allergic reactions. In addition, acupuncture and herbs have no side effects, so the body is even better able to recover from.
Dermatitis, Eczema and Psoriasis: Allergy and Skin
Allergic reactions can also cause skin symptoms. Examples include:
Dermatitis
Dermatitis is often an acute form of skin inflammation. The skin is then red, swollen, itchy and may have cracks. With the treatment, we can remedy this well. This complaint is often related to a blockage of Liver Qi, for example due to tension that causes energy to stagnate under the skin. By relaxing and exercising energy with acupuncture and herbs, the problem solves again.
When the inflammation lasts a long time and becomes chronic, it can lead to skin complaints such as eczema or psoriasis. At that stage, there may also be thickening and keratinization of the skin and peeling.
Eczema and Psoriasis
In the case of eczema and psoriasis, the body has responded to stimuli for a longer period of time. This can be on both the inside and outside of the body. In principle, this reaction is intended for a short time. Prolonged reactions are harmful to the body.
With many treatments, only the symptoms are worked on. With acupuncture and herbs, we work on symptoms and causes, so that complaints eventually decrease and are permanently gone.
Acupuncture alone is often effective for eczema. Sometimes we also support this with an herbal supplement. In practice, we often see an imbalance in:
- Spleen and Stomach, as Earth element, responsible for sufficient nutrients, energy and preventing the accumulation of waste
- Lung and Colon. As a metal element, important for the skin and regulating the moisture balance
- Hiite (redness) and Damp (swelling or clammy skin)
In case of persistent complaints, we combine acupuncture and herbs to enhance the effect of both.
Important points of attention are:
- Removing heat waste products from the blood
- Increasing skin circulation
- Strengthening the resistance for a healthy immune system

Building immunity from within
It has been known to Chinese medicine for a long time: our resistance is built from our stomach and intestines. When there are complaints about the abdomen and digestion, this will certainly be addressed. This also happens when more energy is needed in the body. For example, to have a normal resistance to external substances (such as hay fever). And to have an efficient digestion where no inflammatory substances remain (such as IBS).
Scientific research now confirms the importance of the intestines for health: they are also known as'the second brain'named and studies show the positive effects of the microbiome in relation to skin complaints.
A healthy intestinal flora not only supports the digestive system, but also the immune system and the natural defense against allergens.

Food allergy
In the case of a food allergy, the same principle as described in dermatitis applies to a large extent; it is both the trigger and the body's response that can be a problem. When it comes to the gastrointestinal region, we then talk about gastritis, with symptoms such as:
- Tiredness
- Rash or eczema
- Bloated stomach
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Nausea, vomiting
- Nasal congestion or asthma.
From this list, it can already be concluded that there is a relationship between allergy, skin problems and digestion.
It is often difficult to identify the trigger, for example in the case of IBS or Crohn's disease. Complaints can occur suddenly. Acupuncture and herbs also help to reduce allergic and inflammatory reactions here.
The results are often very good, even if there is an inherited disorder. Often, there is a complete recovery. Even if symptoms do not disappear completely, the quality of life can improve significantly, because symptoms occur less frequently or less frequently.

Conventional healthcare and our vision
For many of the complaints described here, there is a 'regular' treatment. This treatment often focuses on suppressing inflammatory reactions, for example with corticosteroids. This can be effective for reducing symptoms but does not usually address the underlying cause. As a result, symptoms often recur and the body remains in a state of increased inflammatory activity. Prolonged use may also cause side effects.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapy focus on restoring balance in the body and can help reduce allergic symptoms in a more sustainable way. Often with less need for medication.
Another approach in regular care is to avoid the allergen. If research shows what you are allergic to, avoiding this substance can be very effective. In some situations, this is even necessary, such as strictly avoiding gluten in celiac disease.
