How acupuncture and herbs help you with Joint pain
Step 1: the right diagnosis
Step 2: treatment
Step 3: good results
Joints are the pivot points of our body: the places where two bones meet and can move relative to each other. This is where movement and functionality come together.
There are various structures around a joint, such as bones, joint capsules and membranes, tendons, cartilage and bursa. All of these tissues work closely together to allow smooth, stable, and pain-free movement. With our treatment, we help these structures in a targeted manner, for example by improving blood flow.
Causes of joint pain
With joint pain, we distinguish between acute and chronic pain. In acute joint pain, the cause is an accident or injury. If you want quick relief from your pain or injury and want to accelerate your recovery, you can come back to us.
In chronic joint pain, the cause often lies in an internal imbalance. For example, obesity, overload or inflammation. We'll tell you more about that below.
Joint pain due to obesity
In fact, joint pain due to obesity is a form of overload. The joints can be relieved by losing weight. Learn more about how we can help with lose weight and a healthy weight.
Joint pain due to overload: osteoarthritis
Overload can cause wear and tear (osteoarthritis). The soft, supple cartilage wears out and the bones then rub together painfully. As we get older, the risk of osteoarthritis increases. Examples include osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, thumb and phalanges.
Typical of this pain is that the beginning of movement is painful and then it goes away for a while. But when the area is overburdened again, there will be a backlash.
With our acupuncture treatment, we ensure that the pain is immediately reduced. This allows the painful areas to relax again and the body can recover. As the therapy progresses, the body can also be increasingly stressed.
Joint pain due to inflammation
When there is inflammation in a joint, we speak of arthritis. When our immune system is involved in the inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may occur. The differences between arthritis and RA are that the latter's symptoms are progressive (they are getting worse). Another difference is that with RA, the symptoms can occur symmetrically in the body. Our acupuncture treatment helps with pain and inflammation, making it a good choice if you suffer from arthritis or RA.
RA may also be associated with deposition of uric acid crystals. Then we're talking about gout. The joints grow and warp. This can be very painful, for example, on the big toe. Because it will then press against the shoe.
Symptoms of joint pain
Depending on the cause, joint pain has different symptoms. Below are the most common ones:
- You can't make certain movements right anymore
- Swollen joints
- Pain in several joints at the same time
- Pain that changes from joint to joint
- Stiffness
- Expelled joints
- Warmth and/or redness in the joints (inflammation)

Treating joint pain with herbs
Many pain symptoms will recover with acupuncture. Sometimes pain symptoms are persistent, intense or complex. Herbal therapy then offers many benefits and can also be combined with acupuncture. Because you take herbs daily, the therapy is also stronger and better suited for complaints that are very intense. Another advantage is that complex pain symptoms often involve reduced circulation of blood, energy and waste products. All these factors hamper recovery and herbs can all address and dissolve them from within. Finally: herbs also help strengthen the body and rebuild strength very well. If the body, or part of it, is too weak, this also leads to pain. You could also see this as a form of unintentional overload. Complaints where this may play a role include:
- Osteoarthritis (wear)
- Recovering from a (car) accident
- Long-term/chronic/persistent complaints
- Rheumatism
