Neck pain

Neck pain can be very annoying and drastic. We do not only focus on pain relief, but also on the underlying cause. We help you with pain, stiffness and restricted movement. For example, due to stress, an injury, overload or after an accident.

How acupuncture and herbs help you with Neck pain

Step 1: insight

We take the time to carefully map out your neck problems, posture, lifestyle and underlying patterns.

Step 2: treatment

With the treatment, we support the body to release tension in the neck and shoulders and restore balance.

Step 3: improvement

The effect of the treatment gets space to continue in your daily exercise and daily activities.

Neck pain is the most commonly treated complaint in our acupuncture practice. We specialize in treating pain and neck problems. Our method is characterized by its high effectiveness and rapid results. Read more about the causes, symptoms and our treatment for neck problems.

Causes of neck pain

For the causes of neck pain, we must distinguish between acute and chronic complaints. For both, we can help relieve pain and accelerate your recovery.

Acute neck pain

Acute neck problems are often caused by an accident, trauma, or sports injury. In addition, sudden wrong movement, exposure to cold air (air conditioning) or lying down incorrectly while sleeping are also known causes.

Chronic neck pain

In the case of chronic complaints, the cause of neck pain is the prolonged misuse of the head and neck. A lot of computer work, bowed head with the mobile phone and stress contribute to this.

Neck problems due to stress

Stress causes neck problems in two ways. First, it itself causes muscle cramping and stiffness. Secondly, the “high” breathing causes further cramping. When stress lasts a long time, it is possible that unhealthy posture and breathing patterns develop. These perpetuate the problem even more.

Check out the page for sleep and relaxation for more information about how we help you manage the effects of stress.

Wear and tear of cervical vertebrae: osteoarthritis

With age, vertebrae can become worn out. On the one hand, constriction can occur around the vertebrae. And on the other hand, there may be a bulge of the intervertebral disc. As a result, nerve pain occurs. The consequences: pain, cramping and movement restrictions can be treated well with acupuncture.

Whiplash

Rapid back and forth movement of the head can cause damage to the neck, but also to the head. Often this occurs in a rear-end collision in a car accident. As a result, chronic complaints such as headache and neck pain can occur. Did you know that symptoms can also occur some time (months to a year) after the accident itself? The trauma has already occurred, but the body has not recovered from it yet. It is also good for victims to know that (brain) trauma can be associated with mood changes and behavioral changes. With our treatment method, we restore the balance in the body, which also reduces mental complaints.

Complex neck problems

Due to wear, constriction (stenosis) and nerve entrapment (hernia), neck problems can be complex. This is because several things are going on at the same time, so the complaint has not improved so far. Fortunately, with our acupuncture treatment, pain can be relieved immediately, even with complex complaints, or if other treatments did not work.

Neck pain symptoms

  • Restricted movement, unable to look left and right
  • Headaches
  • Head cannot move up or down
  • Cramp
  • Symptoms similar to carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder pain
  • Stinging, dull and/or nerve pain
  • Radiation symptoms: tingling or numbness in arms, hands and/or fingers (neuropathy)

Consequences of neck pain

The consequences of neck pain can be very significant. Pain is tiring and a stressor in itself. In addition, you may not be able to sleep because of the pain, you may no longer drive, or that you may no longer be able to exercise. Medication may be necessary, but this can cause other symptoms. Further tiredness and an attack on our good mood are often the result. In serious cases, this can even put extra pressure on both private and work relationships. Pain is a serious complaint that requires a serious solution.

Treating neck pain with acupuncture

For every complaint, it is important to assume the role of the area that was affected. In the case of the neck, this is the ability to move, balance, turn and bend the head. But the neck must also be able to carry the head. Because our head weighs about 6-7 kilos, that's no small task. So we need to have a well-functioning neck to carry that weight.

With our acupuncture method, we ensure that:

  • The blood flow to the neck is increased
  • That reduces pain and inflammation
  • That the movement of the neck improves
  • The neck becomes strong again

The benefits of our acupuncture method

  • The best side effect: sleep better and relax more
  • Immediate pain relief
  • Sustainable and permanent recovery from within
  • No needles in the affected area
  • No medication or side effects
  • Improving your symptoms, even if other therapy did not work

Treating neck pain with herbs

Many pain symptoms will recover with acupuncture. Sometimes pain symptoms are persistent, intense, or complex. Herbal therapy then offers many benefits and can also be combined with acupuncture. Because you take herbs daily, the therapy is also stronger and better suited for complaints that are very intense. Another advantage is that complex pain symptoms often involve reduced circulation of blood, energy and waste products. All these factors hamper recovery and herbs can all address and dissolve them from within.

Finally: herbs also help strengthen the body and rebuild strength very well. If the body, or part of it, is too weak, this also leads to pain. You could also see this as a form of unintentional overload. Complaints where the above may play a role include:

  • Atrophy (muscle sagging)
  • Osteoarthritis (wear and tear) of the cervical vertebrae
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Recovering from a (car) accident, whiplash
  • Long term/chronic/persistent complaints
  • Rheumatism

Very happy that I ended up with Alex. After my first treatment, my symptoms had become much less. I walked for 4 years with a bad neck and headache, right down to vomiting. Now I sometimes have a bit of pain, but I no longer have to stay in bed, call in sick at work, and that is a huge improvement for me and my life. I always have a nice and familiar feeling about Alex. Acupuncture brings me to deep relaxation, it made me much calmer, gained more insight and can prevent and combat stress much more quickly.

A few weeks ago, I ended up with Alex in a slight panic with a neck hernia and a lot of pain. I had 5 treatments and each time the pain was less and I was able to reduce the painkillers. My complaints are almost completely gone. I will definitely come back if necessary. In addition, he has a very nice, calming energy and you can also talk to him very well.

I came to Alex with neck problems after a hernia operation 3.5 years ago, still had neck problems all this time, and now almost complaint-free after about six treatments. Professional treatment and a good relaxed atmosphere
