Neuropathy
Neuropathic symptoms such as pain, burning or tingling are drastic and can even make exercise difficult. After illness or due to imbalance: acupuncture improves blood flow and helps to reduce these symptoms.
How acupuncture and herbs help you with Neuropathy
Step 1: a correct diagnosis
Step 2: treatment
Step 3: good results
Neuropathy or polyneuropathy (neuropathy in multiple locations) is a neurological disorder. Because the nerves are damaged, there is a lot of pain on the one hand. Or, on the other hand, numbness and tingling. The nature can be complex, but with our acupuncture and herbal treatments, something can be done about both the cause and the effect. Read on quickly.
Causes of neuropathy
These are a number of well-known causes of neuropathy:
- Alcoholism
- Autoimmune problems, thyroid disorders, hereditary causes
- Diabetes, the wrong diet
- Toxins
- Infection
- After chemotherapy
- Kidney failure or cancer
With the exception of an accident or an acutely pinched nerve (e.g. a herniated disc), neuropathy is often a chronic condition. It takes a relatively long time for these problems to occur, where the treatment can sometimes take longer.
What is striking when you look at the above list is that many of the points involve waste. Apparently, the body is so hindered by this that it affects the nerves. With our acupuncture treatment, we encourage the body to clean up the waste products. This is therefore an important strategy in the treatment of neuropathy.
Another important strategy is balancing the body. The balance method that we use has a harmonizing effect on hormones and also on nerves.
Symptoms of neuropathy
Some symptoms of neuropathy include:
- Different or crazy feeling in the hands or feet
- Deafness
- Numbness
- Feeling of walking on cotton wool
- Cramp
- Problems with balance
- Muscle weakness
- Tingling/stinging
Neuropathy and Chinese Medicine
As mentioned, waste products are an important part of many neuropathic complaints. That is why we always look at how much we should take this into account when diagnosing. By the way, this also applies to the hormone balance.
In addition to pain, deafness and/or tingling, there are several symptoms that specifically indicate how the body has become out of balance. With Chinese medicine, we look at clusters of symptoms (patterns). The main patterns of neuropathy in Chinese medicine include:
- Vapour Heat → wastes with possible signs of ignition
- Fluid emptiness (Lung and Stomach) → too few fluids so that waste cannot be removed
- Liver and kidney deficiency → physical fatigue that prevents muscles, tendons and nerves from functioning
- Vapor Cold due to spleen and kidney deficiency → Cold and waste products cause poor circulation and nerve function
- Stagnation of Energy and Blood → poor circulation
Each of the above patterns has multiple symptoms. With your intake, we ask these questions and this is how we arrive at an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.
Tingling, no neuropathy
Some people have symptoms similar to neuropathy, such as tingling or numbness, but there is no real neuropathy. We usually see this with greatly increased muscle tension in the neck and shoulder area. This tension can pinch the nerves and blood vessels that operate the arm. By relieving tension above, the tingling in the hand relieves. This can occur, among other things, in women after pregnancy, where there may be a carpal tunnel syndrome. See how we can help with that at this page.

Treating neuropathy with herbs
Many complaints will recover with acupuncture. Sometimes neuropathic symptoms are persistent. Herbal therapy then offers many benefits and can also be combined with acupuncture. Because you take herbs daily, the therapy is also stronger and better suited for complaints that are very intense. Another advantage is that these types of complex complaints often involve reduced circulation and waste. These hinder recovery and herbs can improve this in a targeted manner.
In neuropathy, several factors are often present at the same time: Vapor, Cold and poor circulation. For a successful treatment, we address all the factors present with your treatment.
